The oldest operating bar in downtown hewitt
The History of Sunrise Bar

Since 1903, Sunrise has been a social hub for the farming community.

Ideally located on Highway 52 East just outside Wausau, Sunrise established itself as the best pit stop for thirsty and hungry travelers and locals for over 120 years.

Today, Sunrise mixes old traditions (Sun Drop) with new ones (the legendary Big Foot Burger). Stop in for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, served with stories, beer, wine, fun, and mixed drinks. Lots and lots of drinks.

40+ Years Working The Line
Hard Work. Community.

Like many in the farm region Sunrise Bar serves, I feel I was born into this way of life. My dad, Bob Senior, ran Paul & Plautz Bar in Wausau. I started working in the kitchen preparing Friday Fish Fries years before I could drive.

I still hold on to the lessons I learned there, like getting up before the sun rises to start the day's work and the power of community when the take-out food orders from everyone in the area kept the bar going when we couldn't have customers inside.

A huge thank you all. Cheers!
